All eight Chinese nationals who were caught trying to enter Taean, South Chungcheong Province, illegally have been arrested.
According to the Taean Coast Guard on the 8th, the Seosan branch of the Daejeon District Court issued arrest warrants that day for eight Chinese nationals, including a person in their 40s identified as A, on charges of violating the Immigration Control Act.
A and others set sail around 10 a.m. on the 5th from Weihai, Shandong Province, China, aboard a 115-horsepower small leisure boat measuring 7 meters in length and 3 meters in width, and attempted to enter Korea illegally, but were apprehended by the Coast Guard at 1:43 a.m. on the 6th in waters 22 nautical miles (about 40 km) northwest of Gaeuido, Geunheung-myeon, Taean-gun.
During the apprehension, one person wearing a life jacket jumped into the sea and was rescued after 20 minutes.
They aimed to work illegally in the country, and some were found to have previously been caught as undocumented stayers and forcibly deported.
