The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said Minister Yoon Ho-jung visited the Daejeon center of the National Information Resources Service (NIRS) on the 8th to inspect the recovery of government information systems that were halted by a fire.
The Minister inspected the data center damaged by the fire on the 26th and reviewed the progress of restoration, discussing support measures for the swift normalization of the systems. He then checked the recovery plan, including securing and newly building computing resources and the transfer of the destroyed systems to the Daegu center.
The government plans to transfer some systems destroyed by the fire to the public-private partnership (PPP) area of the Daegu center's private cloud, and move systems damaged by dust to another data room within the Daejeon center to restore services quickly.
The Minister visited a temporary office to encourage employees working on emergency duty during the holiday and said the ministry would provide careful support to ease their heavy workload and psychological burden.
During the Chuseok holiday, the government deployed about 960 people for information system recovery, including more than 220 civil servants, 574 resident vendor personnel, and about 160 workers for dust removal and technical support.
The Minister said, "To promptly resolve the inconveniences in administrative services that the public is experiencing, we will mobilize all resources, including private cloud collaboration, to focus on system recovery and preventing a recurrence. I am deeply grateful for the dedication of the employees who are on emergency duty even during the holiday."
