On the morning of the 7th, the second day of Chuseok, congestion continued in many sections of the expressways.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, as of 8 a.m. the estimated travel time from tollgates in major cities nationwide to the Seoul Tollgate was 7 hours from Busan, 6 hours 40 minutes from Ulsan, 6 hours from Daegu, 5 hours 30 minutes from Mokpo, 4 hours 50 minutes from Gwangju, 2 hours 40 minutes from Gangneung, and 2 hours 20 minutes from Daejeon.
The estimated travel time from the Seoul Tollgate to major cities nationwide was 7 hours 30 minutes to Busan, 7 hours 10 minutes to Ulsan, 6 hours 30 minutes to Daegu, 6 hours 20 minutes to Mokpo, 5 hours 30 minutes to Gwangju, 4 hours 20 minutes to Gangneung, and 3 hours 10 minutes to Daejeon.
Congestion heading from the Seoul metropolitan area to the provinces was expected to peak between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., and congestion from the provinces to the metropolitan area was expected to peak between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The corporation predicted that congestion for those heading to their hometowns would ease around 9–10 p.m., and congestion for those returning would ease around 2–3 a.m. the following day.
As of 8 a.m., on the Gyeongbu Expressway toward Seoul, traffic was moving slowly for 1 km at the Gimcheon junction exit; toward Busan, vehicles were crawling for 2 km from Namsajini to near Namsa and for 3 km from near Manghyang Service Area to near Cheonan.
On the Seohaean Expressway toward Mokpo, traffic was congested for 11 km from near Donggunsan to near the Dongseocheon Junction; toward Seoul, it was congested for 2 km from near the Paltan Junction to near the Hwaseong Service Area.
On the Yeongdong Expressway toward Gangneung, vehicles repeatedly stopped and started for 7 km from near Icheon to the Yeoju Junction. On the Jungbu Expressway and the Yeongdong Expressway toward Incheon, traffic was moving smoothly.
The corporation projected nationwide traffic volume for the day at 5.61 million vehicles. An estimated 390,000 vehicles were expected to travel from the metropolitan area to the provinces, and 380,000 from the provinces to the metropolitan area.
