Police launched an investigation after a post on an online community warned of a terror attack threatening to detonate butane gas at a major department store in Bucheon, Gyeonggi.
According to the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 6th, at about 1:10 p.m. that day, a report came in that a post reading "I will blow up the Hyundai Department Store Jung-dong branch at 3 p.m. with butane gas" had been uploaded to an online community, and police and firefighters responded jointly.
The department store was closed for Chuseok, but in line with the terror warning post, police officers and fire personnel were deployed to search the store. Because of this, more than 650 people watching movies at the theater inside the department store evacuated outside.
The search confirmed there were no explosives, and the situation ended at about 3:15 p.m. that day, with the theater resuming operations.
Police are conducting an investigation to arrest the user who uploaded the terror warning post.
