On the 6th, the afternoon of Chuseok, expressways nationwide remained jammed as vehicles heading back to Seoul crowded the roads.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, as of 2 p.m. based on departures from tollgates, the estimated travel time from the provinces to Seoul is ▲ Busan 9 hours 10 minutes ▲ Ulsan 8 hours 50 minutes ▲ Gangneung 4 hours 50 minutes ▲ Yangyang 3 hours 50 minutes (departing Namyangju) ▲ Daejeon 5 hours ▲ Gwangju 7 hours 50 minutes ▲ Mokpo 9 hours (departing West Seoul) ▲ Daegu 8 hours 10 minutes.
Seoul-bound roads will be most congested around 6 p.m., and will not return to normal flow until 1 a.m. the next day (the 7th).
From Seoul to the provinces, travel times are expected to be ▲ Busan 9 hours 10 minutes ▲ Ulsan 8 hours 50 minutes ▲ Gangneung 5 hours ▲ Yangyang 3 hours 50 minutes (departing Namyangju) ▲ Daejeon 4 hours 50 minutes ▲ Gwangju 7 hours 40 minutes ▲ Mokpo 7 hours 40 minutes (departing West Seoul) ▲ Daegu 8 hours 10 minutes.
Congestion toward the provinces will peak around 3 p.m. and ease around 11 p.m.
As of 1:30 p.m., on the Gyeongbu Line toward Seoul, slow traffic was observed near Yangsan Junction to Yangsan IC for 7 km, Eonyang Junction to Hwalcheon IC for 11 km, Gyeongju Tunnel to Yeongcheon Junction for 7 km, Waegwan to Chilgok Service Area for 4 km, Yeongdong IC to Yeongdong Tunnel 1 for 10 km, Biryong Junction to Daejeon IC for 6 km, near Jukam Service Area for 4 km, Cheongju IC to Cheongju Service Area for 15 km, Cheonan Samgeori Service Area to Cheonan IC for 5 km, and Dallaenae to Banpo IC for 10 km.
On the Seohaean Line toward Seoul, jams continued for 11 km from Illo IC to near Mongtan Tunnel 2, 11 km from Gochang Junction to Seonunsan IC, 13 km from Dong Gunsan IC to Dong Seocheon Junction, 22 km from Dangjin Junction to near the Seohae Grand Bridge, 11 km from Seopyeongtaek Junction to Hwaseong Service Area, 7 km from Bibong IC to Palgok Junction, and 4 km from Iljik Junction to Geumcheon IC.
On the Jungbu Line toward Hanam, congestion was occurring for 4 km near Seocheongju IC and 11 km near Iljuk IC.
On this day, the Korea Expressway Corporation projected that a holiday-high 6.67 million vehicles would use the expressways nationwide. Some 490,000 vehicles will move from the capital area to the provinces, and 480,000 from the provinces to the capital area.
