Former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife are set to spend a bleak Chuseok while being held in a detention center.
According to the legal community and others on the 3rd, former President Yoon Suk-yeol will spend the Chuseok holiday at the Seoul Detention Center, and first lady Kim Keon-hee will spend it at the Seoul Southern Detention Center.
In particular, the three special counsels investigating former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife (insurrection, Kim Keon-hee, and the death of Sgt. Chae) have not set any questioning schedule during the holiday, leaving them to remain in the detention centers throughout the break.
On weekends and public holidays, attorney visits are not allowed, meaning meetings with lawyers are barred; there will reportedly be no special holiday menu (special meal) either.
Ordinarily, the Ministry of Justice provided special menus (special meals) during holidays such as Lunar New Year and Chuseok, but it halted them starting with the most recent Lunar New Year due to budget shortages.
Still, the Seoul Southern Detention Center, where Kim is confined, plans to offer apples, bananas, and songpyeon during the holiday break. The Seoul Detention Center, where former President Yoon is incarcerated, will serve braised pork ribs for lunch on Chuseok day.
