The National Solidarity for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (NSEDPD) held a protest on the afternoon of the 2nd at Seoul's Gangnam Express Bus Terminal, attempting to board express buses as the Chuseok holiday travel rush began.
That afternoon, NSEDPD members held a press conference in the Gyeongbu Line waiting hall at the Express Bus Terminal in Seocho District, Seoul, demanding the enactment of the "Transport Accessibility Rights Act" and the introduction of low-floor buses.
They said, "At present, not a single intercity or express bus is taking on people with disabilities," and added, "We will make sure to build a society where people with disabilities can take a bus to their hometowns during the holidays, and where the mobility of people with disabilities is guaranteed as a right, not discrimination."
After the briefing, they booked four tickets for a bus to Sejong departing at 3:40 p.m. and tried to board. But they could not get on because of the stairs, and they backed down after a meeting was arranged with a bus company official. Because of them, the bus departed about five minutes late.
That morning, NSEDPD also held a rally at Yongsan Station urging the guarantee of a "budget for the rights of persons with disabilities," and delivered a letter of demands to Democratic Party of Korea leader Jeong Cheong-rae and Rebuilding Korea Party floor leader Seo Wang-jin.
