Kimcheon Mayor Bae Nak-ho was brought to trial on charges of announcing false information while running in a by-election.
The Gimcheon Branch of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office indicted North Gyeongsang Province's Kimcheon Mayor Bae Nak-ho on the 1st on a charge of violating the Public Official Election Act for giving a false account of his criminal history while running in the Kimcheon mayoral by-election.
Bae is accused of giving a false explanation of his criminal history during a press conference held at Kimcheon City Hall on Dec. 12 last year and in media interviews ahead of the Kimcheon mayoral by-election held on Apr. 2.
The Kimcheon City Election Commission confirmed Bae's illegal conduct and reported him to police on Feb. 24 on a charge of announcing false information. Police forwarded the case to prosecutors in Aug.
