The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will be expanded and reorganized into the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family on Oct. 1. Going forward, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will serve as the control tower for policies related to gender equality.
The ministry said on the 30th that a bill to amend the Government Organization Act containing these details was approved at a Cabinet meeting.
Accordingly, Won Min-kyoung, Minister of the ministry, will become the inaugural Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
With this reorganization, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will be expanded from the existing structure of 2 bureaus, 2 departments, 3 divisions, 1 spokesperson, and 27 sections to 3 bureaus, 6 divisions, 1 spokesperson, and 30 sections. The authorized headcount will also increase by 17 from the current 277 to 294.
On the 1st, the ministry plans to hold a signboard unveiling ceremony at the Government Complex Seoul with Minister Won, the Vice Minister, and staff in attendance.
Minister Won said, "The newly launched Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will make active efforts to realize practical gender equality that contributes to the lives of all people, including spreading the value of gender equality."
