Syuka, an economics YouTuber with 3.61 million subscribers (real name Jeon Seok-jae), is under fire for using a doctored image intended to mock the late former President Roh Moo-hyun during an internet broadcast.
On the 28th, during a live broadcast on his YouTube channel, Syuka cited examples of the U.S. Trump administration withdrawing from international organizations and used a graphic featuring the World Health Organization (WHO) logo, but claims emerged that the logo image was manipulated.
In the logo image, Roh, his pet dog, and skate were placed in place of the world map in the official WHO emblem. The image is presumed to have been circulated by users of the online community "Ilgan Best" (Ilbe). The segment has since been edited. Syuka has not issued a separate statement on the matter.
Earlier, in Jul., Syuka sparked controversy for using a map labeled "Sea of Japan" instead of "East Sea" on air. At the time, Syuka said, "This mistake is something even I find hard to accept, and I sincerely apologize for causing concern to many," adding, "The East Sea is the East Sea, and Dokdo is, of course, our land."
He also said he would donate 30 million won to the Korean Red Cross's "Support descendants of independence activists" as an expression of remorse.
