Comedian Jeon Yu-seong, once called the "godfather of comedy," died on the 25th. He was 76.
According to the Korea Broadcasting Comedians Association, Jeon died around 9:05 p.m. that day as pneumothorax symptoms worsened.
The deceased had previously suffered from pneumonia and had struggled with aftereffects of COVID-19. Recently, the person even underwent surgery to remove part of a lung due to a collapsed lung, but the symptoms worsened and the person had been hospitalized.
Jeon debuted in 1969 as a TBC broadcast writer. He later switched to being a comedian and became known through "Humor No. 1" and "Show Video Jockey." He is also known as the first person to use the word "gagman" in an era when people were called comedians or comic actors. He is also cited as a founding contributor to KBS's flagship comedy program "Gag Concert."
He continued to work actively across broadcasting and stage performances, and also served as a professor at Yewon Arts University and as MC for MBC radio programs "Women's Era" and "Now Is Radio Time."
The funeral will be held as a comedians' association funeral. A roadside memorial service will be held in the KBS area, where the deceased was highly active during his lifetime.
