The National Office of Investigation of the Korean National Police Agency has launched a probe into the case of customer information leaked due to the Lotte Card hack.
Police said on the 19th that they became aware of the case earlier this month as related media reports mounted and have been conducting an investigation.
Police will first identify how much customer information was stolen and through what route from Lotte Card, then track the hackers.
Lotte Card said in a briefing the previous day that it had confirmed 2,969,000 customers' information was leaked due to an external hacking attack. Among the victims, 283,000 (9.5%) also had their card PINs and CVCs leaked.
Lotte Card initially reported the size of the data leak as 1.7GB (gigabytes), but it expanded to 200GB during the investigation by the Financial Supervisory Service and the Financial Security Institute.
