A bus fire broke out in the Masung Tunnel on the Yeongdong Expressway in Yongin, injuring about 10 passengers.
According to the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 16th, a bus fire occurred at about 9:17 p.m. in the Masung Tunnel on the Yeongdong Expressway toward Gangneung in Cheoin District, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. One person was seriously injured, and 10 people inhaled smoke and were taken to nearby hospitals.
Fire authorities issued Response Level 1 nine minutes after the fire broke out and then raised it to Level 2 at about 9:44 p.m. Response Level 1 is an alert in which manpower and equipment are mobilized from up to four nearby fire stations. Depending on the scale of the fire, it is expanded to Levels 2–3.
Authorities then blocked two lanes and mobilized 24 pieces of equipment and 72 personnel, achieving initial knockdown at about 10:09 p.m. and lowering the response to Level 1. Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the accident once the fire is extinguished.
