A foreign worker in his 40s died after being caught in a machine at a metal manufacturing plant in Incheon.
According to the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's criminal mobile unit on Feb. 16, at about 2:50 p.m. that day, a Cambodian man in his 40s, identified as A, was caught in a press at a metal manufacturing plant in Manseok-dong, Dong District. Paramedics from 119 responded to the accident, but A died at the scene.
Police and fire authorities believe A was injured while turning a metal rod of circular shape and are investigating the specific circumstances. A police official said, "We plan to ask the National Forensic Service to conduct an autopsy on A's body and check internal closed-circuit (CC) TV to investigate whether a safety manager was present."
Labor authorities plan to apply the Act on the Punishment of Serious Accidents (Serious Accident Punishment Act), given that the plant is a business site with five or more workers.
Earlier, on 15th, there was also a safety accident at a metal plant in Incheon. At about 9:51 a.m. the previous day, a gas leak occurred at a metal manufacturing plant in Gajwa-dong, Seo District, and two workers inhaled gas and reported shortness of breath and dizziness.
