The camp of Han, the president of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (Unification Church), who had not complied with three summonses from the special counsel investigating Kim Keon-hee, said on the 14th that Han will voluntarily appear sometime between the 17th and 18th.
The Unification Church side said, "What we need is time for President Han to recover her health, not to refuse to appear," conveying this position.
Earlier the same day, the special counsel said, "President Han, who was scheduled to be summoned tomorrow (the 15th), submitted in writing through her attorneys an intention not to appear for questioning." The reason for not appearing was reported to be health-related.
The special counsel also requested Han's appearance on the 1st and the 11th, but it was reported that she did not comply for health reasons.
The special counsel believes that Han was behind circumstances in which Yoon Young-ho, the former global headquarters chief of the Unification Church, around the 2022 presidential election met with People Power Party lawmaker Kweon Seong-dong and handed over a shopping bag suspected of containing money and valuables, and, through Jeon Seong-bae, known as the "Geomancy Master," delivered two luxury necklaces and bags to Kim Keon-hee.
