The special counsel investigating Kim Keon-hee issued a third notice on the 10th to the president of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (Unification Church), a Korean studies scholar, to appear on the 15th.
At a regular briefing that day, the special counsel said, "We issued a third summons notice (to President Han's side)," and noted, "The scheduled date and time is 10 a.m. on the 15th." Earlier, the Unification Church said that day, "President Han plans not to appear for the special counsel's questioning tomorrow (11th) due to health reasons."
The special counsel first sought to summon President Han on the 8th. However, President Han did not comply with the questioning at the time for health reasons. In response, the special counsel set the appearance for the 11th, but President Han refused for the same reason, and it was again noticed for the 15th.
President Han's side says they will comply with the questioning as soon as her health improves. Whether she will appear for the summons on the 15th is also uncertain.
The special counsel is looking into allegations that around the 2022 presidential election, President Han met People Power Party lawmaker Kweon Seong-dong, received a deep bow, and gave him a shopping bag suspected to contain cash or valuables.
There are also allegations that President Han colluded with Yoon Young-ho, the former head of the Unification Church world headquarters who has been indicted and detained, to give Rep. Kweon 1 billion won. Meanwhile, Yoon is suspected of being involved, through Geonjin beopsa Jeon Seong-bae, in handing high-priced diamond necklaces and Chanel bags to Mrs. Kim and lobbying on church pending issues from April to July 2022.
In relation to this, President Han said on the 31st of last month, "I have never instructed any illegal political solicitation or monetary transaction." After that, ahead of the summons, President Han was reported to have undergone a heart-related procedure at Asan Medical Center in Seoul on the 3rd.
