In Dongtan New Town in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, a car driven by a woman in her 50s with a cast on her right foot veered onto the sidewalk and injured three pedestrians.
Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station said on the 9th that it has booked a woman in her 50s, identified only by the surname A, on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents (injury) and is investigating.
According to police, at about 4:50 p.m. on the 8th, A was driving her Mini Cooper at an intersection in Yeongcheon-dong, Hwaseong, when she rushed onto the sidewalk and hit two teenagers and a person in his 50s.
One of the teenage girls suffered severe facial injuries, underwent surgery, and is being treated, while the other teenage girl and a man in his 50s sustained minor injuries to the abdomen and hands and are being treated at a hospital. All three are not in life-threatening condition.
A police investigation found that A, who had a cast on her right leg, caused the accident by mistakenly operating the pedals, confusing the accelerator and brake. At the time of the crash, there were no violations such as drunk or drugged driving or driving without a license.
