Shin & Kim LLC said it launched the corporate strategy and taxes center "to systematically study the interrelationship among corporations' management strategy, tax policy, and tax strategy, and to provide practical and policy insights that both corporations and policy authorities can use."
The Shin & Kim LLC corporate strategy and taxes center will carry out: ▲ analysis of domestic and international tax code overhauls and trends in international taxes ▲ research on succession and reorganization of corporate governance ▲ research on tax issues related to corporate activities such as corporate investment and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) ▲ analysis of recent tax audits and tax litigation trends and recommendations for countermeasures ▲ tax law policy proposals at the legislative and administrative stages ▲ operation of a tax academy and hosting of regular seminars.
For the inaugural head of the center, Lee Chang-hee, a former professor at the Seoul National University School of Law and a leading authority in the field of taxes in Korea, was appointed. Attorney Lee Jeong-ryeol (42nd class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), who served as a director at the Korea International Taxes Association and the Korean Tax Law Association, will serve as secretary.
In addition, attorney Yoon Jin-gyu (33rd class), who worked as a research judge at the Supreme Court's tax division and at the Seoul Administrative Court's tax panel, attorney Woo Do-hoon (40th class), a certified public accountant by background, and senior certified public accountant Jeong Young-min, who worked for about 30 years as a tax specialist at the Board of Audit and Inspection and KIM&CHANG, will join the center.
In addition, senior tax accountant Ko Yeon-gi, who served as the partner in charge of the inheritance tax team at EY Han Young, and foreign attorney Jang Maria, who handled international taxes, tariffs, and trade at BAE, KIM & LEE LLC and provided tax advice on inbound transaction, along with experts across the legislative, administrative, and judicial fields who worked at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Tax Tribunal, the National Tax Service, the Korea Customs Service, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and international organizations, will participate.
Meanwhile, Shin & Kim LLC plans to hold a seminar on the 17th to mark the launch of the center, under the theme "trends and outlook of legislation, administration, and judiciary in the new government's corporate taxation."
