A former professional baseball player turned organized crime member was arrested by police on suspicion of domestic violence.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's Criminal Mobile Unit said on the 8th that it has applied for an arrest warrant for a Busan-based organized crime member surnamed A, a former professional baseball player, on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Domestic Violence Crimes.
Mr. A is accused of assaulting his wife, Ms. B, at their Busan home at about 5 a.m. on the 6th, causing serious injuries including fractures. Police arrested Mr. A as a suspect caught in the act.
Mr. A is a former professional baseball pitcher who, due to misconduct that began in his youth, was unable to continue his playing career and voluntarily left his team, after which he is known to have joined a Busan-area violent organization. He also worked as an internet broadcaster.
He was previously sentenced to prison for, among other charges, bodily injury with a weapon and is known to have been released early last month.
