It has recently come to light that a KT micro-payment hacking incident nearly occurred in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
According to the police on the 8th, the Yeongdeungpo Police Station received a report that a KT user had lost 495,000 won due to a mobile phone gift certificate payment around 2 p.m. on the 6th of last month.
The victim immediately canceled the payment and received a full refund. The police launched an investigation but closed the case earlier this month without identifying a suspect. Additionally, from the 26th of last month, there had been a series of micro-payment hacking incidents targeting KT users in Gyeonggi's Gwangmyeong City and Seoul's Geumcheon-gu. So far, it has been confirmed that a total of 45.8 million won has been fraudulently charged over 74 instances, and the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency is reported to be conducting the investigation.
The police plan to investigate the correlation between the Yeongdeungpo incident and the cases in Gwangmyeong and Geumcheon.
