The leader of the Unification Church has reportedly decided not to attend the summons investigation regarding the 'Geonjin Beopsasa and Unification Church solicitation allegations' related to Kim Keon-hee on the 8th.
According to the legal community on the 5th, the legal team of the leader is expected to submit a letter of reason for non-attendance to the special prosecutor today.
Earlier, the special prosecutor notified the leader to appear and be investigated on the 8th. However, the leader was hospitalized in a special room at Seoul Asan Medical Center on the 3rd and was reported to have been discharged this morning and is recovering at another hospital.
The leader faces allegations under the Special Act on the Punishment of Specific Crimes for soliciting bribes and for violating the Political Funds Act in connection with the 'Geonjin Beopsasa and Unification Church solicitation allegations.'
The special prosecutor is investigating allegations that Kweon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party, met the leader around the 2022 presidential election and received a shopping bag presumed to contain money after bowing deeply.
There are also allegations that the detained former head of the Unification Church, Yoon Young-ho, received 100 million won from the member. Yoon is accused of being involved in soliciting issues of the church by presenting luxury diamond necklaces and Chanel bags to Kim Keon-hee through Geonjin Beopsasa Jeon Seong-bae from April to July 2022.
