On the 3rd, the Special Prosecutor for Insurrection said, "Former People Power Party Representative Han Dong-hoon is someone necessary for the investigation into the allegation of obstruction of the National Assembly's vote to lift the martial law."
On this day, Special Prosecutor Park Ji-young, during a regular media briefing, answered when reporters asked, "Is it correct to summon former Representative Han? Have you notified him of the date of the summons?" It was earlier reported that the special prosecutor planned to summon former Representative Han as a witness in relation to the allegation of obstruction of the vote to lift the martial law.
Special Prosecutor Park stated, "The principle is that we do not confirm the summons of politicians related to the obstruction of the vote on the lifting of the martial law unless they confirm themselves," but added, "However, I think everyone would agree that former Representative Han is someone whose opinion is necessary in clarifying the facts of this case."
Additionally, Special Prosecutor Park mentioned, "If former Representative Han comes and shares related insights, I believe it will be of great help."
The Special Prosecutor for Insurrection has reportedly planned to summon former Representative Han as a witness in connection with the allegations that the leadership of the People Power Party, including the then floor leader Chu Kyung-ho, obstructed the attendance of lawmakers at the National Assembly vote during the process of lifting the martial law on Dec. 3. At the time, the 'resolution to demand the lifting of martial law' was passed at 1:02 a.m. on Dec. 4 with 190 present and 190 in favor, while only 18 out of 108 People Power Party lawmakers participated.
In this regard, the special prosecutor conducted searches of the homes and offices of Representative Chu and the office of People Power Party member Jo Ji-yeon on the 2nd.
The special prosecutor is also trying to conduct searches of the People Power Party's floor leader's office and the floor administrative office on this day. Earlier, the special prosecutor attempted searches at these locations on the 2nd and 3rd but withdrew due to resistance from the People Power Party.
Regarding this, Special Prosecutor Park stated, "The search of the People Power Party's floor leader's office is currently under discussion for smooth progress following the procedures of the Criminal Procedure Act."
Meanwhile, the Special Prosecutor for Insurrection is summoning Democratic Party of Korea Representative Park Sun-won as a witness regarding foreign exchange allegations, starting from 2 p.m. on this day.
Representative Park arrived at the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office, where the special prosecutor's office is located, around 1:40 p.m. and told reporters, "I think it will be quite difficult for the special prosecutor to clarify the reality of the insurrection and delve into the foreign exchange issue in a situation where internal audits and inspections have not been conducted properly since the launch of the new government."
When reporters asked, "Do you plan to disclose the detailed report regarding the allegations related to drone operations?" Representative Park replied, "I plan to do everything feasible regarding what the special prosecutor is investigating and requesting."
