On the 3rd, BAE, KIM & LEE LLC announced the recruitment of international tax expert Lee Kyung-geun and foreign lawyer Jo Min-kyung (New York State, USA).
Advisor Lee Kyung-geun (tax accountant) graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in business administration and obtained his master's degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley, and a doctorate in economics from Sciences Po in Paris. He entered public service in 1984 after passing the 28th national administrative examination and participated in drafting regulations related to transfer pricing during the enactment process of Korea's 'International Tax Coordination Act.'
Advisor Lee has served as an administrative officer in the secretariat of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Committee on Fiscal Affairs and as a Deputy Director in the International Taxation Division of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (formerly the Ministry of Finance and Economy). In 2003, he served as the chief representative of Korea in negotiations to amend tax treaties with tax authorities in China, Australia, and Canada, leading international tax negotiations and tax treaty amendments. He later held positions as the director of the income tax division, international tax division, and corporate tax division at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Since 2007, he has worked at Yulchon as the head of tax advisory services, overseeing global tax advisory work including international taxation, transfer pricing, and cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He has been recognized continuously for 16 years from 2010 to the present by the legal media outlet Chambers Asia Pacific-Tax Consultants. In addition, he serves as a Korean arbitrator for the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes under the World Bank and as a chair professor at the Graduate School of Science and Technology in Seoul.
Foreign lawyer Jo Min-kyung served as a specialist in the International Legal Affairs Division of the Ministry of Justice, providing legal support in the areas of international trade and transactions as well as international legal affairs. Later, as the team leader of the OECD Coordination Office at the National Tax Service, she carried out tasks such as planning international tax policies and drafting regulatory legislation. Recently, she has also gained practical experience working as an in-house lawyer at Samsung Heavy Industries.
