An active-duty army captain was found with a gunshot wound near Suseong Lake, a major amusement area in downtown Daegu, prompting military authorities and police to launch an investigation.
According to the army, police, and fire authorities on the 2nd, a citizen reported to police around 6:29 a.m. that a man, believed to be in his 30s, was found dead behind a restroom at Suseong Lake in Suseong District, Daegu.
The officer was a captain belonging to an army unit directly under the command in North Gyeongsang Province and was found wearing civilian clothes with a gunshot wound to the head. Next to him was a military rifle believed to be an K-2.
Military authorities have collected the firearm from the scene and are investigating the exact identity of the deceased, the circumstances of the firearm's removal, and the cause of the incident. A military official noted that "there appears to be no criminal suspicion."
