According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 10 a.m. on the 1st, heavy rain warnings are in effect for the Incheon and western coastal areas of Gyeonggi, as well as Taean, Hongseong, Yesan, and Boryung in Chungnam. Very heavy and significant rainfall of 5 to 30 mm per hour is expected in the central region, southern coast, and Jeju, with some areas receiving over 40 mm per hour.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that there would be rainfall in most parts of the country on that day. From noon to 6 p.m., very heavy and significant rain of 20 to 30 mm per hour is expected, with some areas receiving over 40 mm per hour.
From midnight to 11 a.m. on that day, 13.9 mm of rain fell in Seoul. Additionally, rainfall amounts in other regions included 32.9 mm in Hongseong, Chungnam, 32.6 mm in Seogwipo, Jeju, 22.5 mm in Suwon, Gyeonggi, 18.2 mm in Uiryeong, Gyeongnam, 14 mm in Changwon, Gyeongnam, and 11.7 mm in Daegu.
However, no rain fell in Gangneung on that day. In the eastern coastal region, including Sokcho and Donghae, it did not rain either. However, rain could occur in the afternoon. The Gangwon Regional Meteorological Administration noted that under generally cloudy conditions, it is forecasted that rain will fall in parts of the Gangwon eastern coast from noon to 6 p.m. However, the rainfall is expected to be less than 5 mm. There is no rain forecast for the Gangwon eastern coast from the 2nd to the 4th.
This summer, rainfall in Gangneung has not reached even 30% of the average. From July 31 to August 30, the rainfall in the last month was 60.6 mm, which is one-fifth of the average level. Even if there is sufficient rainfall, high temperatures can cause significant evaporation, leading to water shortages, and the amount of rain that fell is also insufficient.
As of 11 a.m. on that day, the only areas in the country where heat wave warnings were in effect were some regions of the Gangwon eastern coast, including Gangneung, Donghae, and Samcheok. The highest temperature forecast for that day in Gangneung was 34 degrees.
