A delivery driver who staged a hoax by claiming that explosives had been planted at a fast-food restaurant in Suwon is facing trial while in custody.
The Suwon District Prosecutor's Office Criminal Division 1 (Director General Seo Young-bae) announced on the 1st that a delivery driver in his 20s, referred to as A, has been indicted on charges of obstruction of a public duty and obstruction of business.
On 17th of last month, at around 1:07 p.m., Mr. A made a post on social media (SNS) about a fast-food restaurant in Yeongtong District, Suwon, stating, "The delivery is late and the staff are unfriendly. I will plant explosives." He then reported a terrorism suspicion to the police as if he were an eyewitness to the post.
After receiving the 112 report, the police special forces deployed and checked for over 1 hour and 40 minutes, but no explosives were found. The fast-food restaurant is located in a building with 3 underground floors and 9 above-ground floors. The explosive report led to an evacuation of over 400 individuals, including patients and students from nearby hospitals and educational institutions.
The police tracked the writer's ID and apprehended Mr. A three hours after the incident occurred. He was investigated and found to have committed this act out of resentment after hearing from store staff that "the delivery seems to be late" after taking an order from this establishment.
