The special prosecutor team, led by Min Jung-ki, investigating allegations related to Kim Keon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, summoned and is questioning Jeon Seong-bae, known as 'Geon-jin Beop-sa,' who is currently in custody, on the 31st.
Jeon arrived at the special prosecutor team's office located in the KT Gwanghwamun Building West in Jongno-gu, Seoul, around 2 p.m. that day aboard a Ministry of Justice van. This marks his third appearance since being arrested on the 21st, following appearances on the 25th and 27th. The special prosecutor is expected to refer Jeon to trial before the custody period ends on the 9th of next month.
Jeon is accused of receiving a diamond necklace and a Chanel bag labeled as a gift for Kim Keon-hee from Yoon Mo, the former head of the Unification Church, who was arrested in August 2022, and delivering these items to her after being solicited for issues related to the church.
The special prosecutor indicated in Kim's indictment submitted to the court on the 29th that Jeon colluded with her to receive a total of 80 million won in bribes related to support from the Unification Church through church representatives between April and July 2022.
Additionally, Jeon is also facing accusations of receiving over 100 million won from political figures under the guise of 'prayer funds' ahead of the June 2022 local elections and conveying requests for nominations to 'Yoon-haek-gwan' (key associates of Yoon Suk-yeol).
The special prosecutor is also looking into allegations that Jeon and Yoon attempted to have members of the Unification Church join the People Power Party in order to support Kweon Seong-dong's candidacy for party leader ahead of the People's Power Party convention in March 2023.
