Baemin's new member chicken coupon event unexpectedly sparked a controversy over 'unlimited coupons.'
According to industry sources on the 28th, Baemin recently issued a 15,000 won discount coupon that can be used at popular brands like BBQ and Cheogajip Yangnyeom Chicken for new subscribers. The minimum order amount is 16,000 won, which means that with the coupon, one could order chicken for just 1,000 won.
After the event was announced, some users shared that if they repeatedly canceled and re-joined, they could continue receiving coupons, causing the news to spread rapidly through social media and online communities.
In fact, a delivery driver posted a photo of a 'hall full of cola' on an online community, prompting a flood of reviews about 'unlimited chicken and cola.' One user noted, 'The minimum order amount at the store in front of my house is 16,000 won, so I only spent a total of 7,000 won even after ordering 10 times,' and shared a photo as proof. There were also cases where users ordered only cola to stack up.
Some criticized this as fraudulent use exploiting system loopholes. Meanwhile, others argued that 'the coupon guidelines stated that 999 could be issued daily with identity verification, so isn't it a legitimate use?' leading to a growing controversy. Reactions in the community included questions like 'Is there a store that only accepts cola?' and 'This goes too far.'
The operator Woowa Brothers stated, 'It was a mishap due to the absence of abuse prevention settings,' and mentioned that currently, only new subscribers can receive coupons. They also clarified that 'since Baemin, not the store owners, bears the full expense of the event, there was no harm to franchise stores.'
