Kim Keon-hee attended a special prosecutor's office for her fifth investigation since her arrest on the 28th.
On that day, around 9:28 a.m., Kim arrived at the KT Gwanghwamun Building West in Jongno, Seoul, where the special prosecutor's office is located, in a Ministry of Justice escort vehicle.
The special prosecutor's office stated during a regular briefing that "Kim Keon-hee's morning investigation began at 10:14 a.m. and lasted until 11:01 a.m., and after a break, it continued from 11:11 a.m. to 11:49 a.m." and noted, "The investigation resumed at 1:23 p.m. after lunch."
Subsequently, it was reported that "Today, the investigation of Kim Keon-hee ended at 3:24 p.m.," and after reviewing the transcript, "She exited at 4:42 p.m." The actual investigation time, excluding breaks, is about 3 hours and 26 minutes.
During the investigation, the special prosecutor's office questioned her about allegations of stock manipulation involving Deutsch Motors. As in the investigation on the 25th, it is reported that Kim exercised her right to refuse to testify for most of the questioning.
Kim was arrested on the 12th for violating the Capital Market Act (allegations of involvement in stock manipulation related to Deutsch Motors), violating the Political Fund Act (allegations of interference in the 2022 and 2024 elections), and suspicion of receiving bribes under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (allegations of soliciting bribes through a shaman).
The Deutsch Motors stock manipulation case involves former chairman Kwon Oh-soo, who was the largest shareholder and CEO of the listed company Deutsch Motors, colluding with 13 individuals, including a stock manipulation operator and current and former employees of securities firms, to carry out illegal transactions of 15.99 million shares (worth 636 billion won) between 2009 and 2012 using 157 accounts. During the investigation and related trial process, it was revealed that six securities accounts under Kim's name were involved in the stock manipulation. The special prosecutor's office believes that Kim was aware of the stock manipulation in advance.
Kim is also suspected of having helped former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun to be nominated for the by-election in Changwon's Changwon-ichang constituency in 2022. The special prosecutor's office suspects that former President Yoon and his wife received public opinion surveys related to the presidential election valued at about 318 million won for free from Lee Myung-taek and former lawmaker Kim Young-sun during the 2022 presidential election.
Additionally, Kim is accused of asking former lawmaker Kim to give up his district to former prosecutor Kim Sang-min in last year's general election, to support former prosecutor Kim, and of receiving two "Chanel" bags valued at about 10 million won and a "Van Cleef & Arpels" necklace and a "Graff" necklace worth about 60 million won through shaman Jeon Sung-bae from April to July 2022, helping to resolve issues concerning the Unification Church.
The special prosecutor's office plans to indict Kim on the 29th. Since Kim's detention period is until the 31st, they will indict her before that date.
