Dynamite was found in a river in Donghwa-ri, Songak-myeon, Asan City, and was urgently detonated.
According to the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency and the Chungnam Fire Department, a report was received at the 119 Integrated Situation Room that four pieces of dynamite were discovered in the river Akbongcheon at 678-11, Donghwa-ri, Songak-myeon, Asan City, around 4:44 p.m. on the 26th.
The Asan Fire Station's on-site response team communicated the situation to the Asan City Ecological River Division and Safety Management Division, and requested assistance from the military explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team. At 6:10 p.m. that day, the chief of the Asan Police Station and officials from the military, police, and fire departments gathered to discuss response measures.
The joint military and police explosive ordnance disposal team was dispatched to the scene and began the demolition work at 8 a.m. on the 27th, completing preparations for detonation around 10 a.m. when the crane arrived, and detonating the explosives around 11 a.m.
The dynamite discovered this time is presumed to have been supplied for military use during a disaster prevention project in 2023 and left uncollected during civilian construction processes.
Authorities plan to investigate the circumstances surrounding the uncollected explosives and any potential mismanagement.
