The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that as of the 27th, it has appointed Jo Nam-cheol, the former human rights protection officer of the Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office, as a legal advisor.
The legal advisor of the Seoul Metropolitan Government provides guidance and legal advice to the city's special judicial police. It supports investigations to ensure they are conducted with due process and consideration for human rights.
Born in 1969, the new legal advisor Jo Nam-cheol graduated from Yonsei University's law school and obtained a master's degree from the same school's graduate school. He passed the bar exam in 2000 and began his career as a prosecutor at the Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office in 2009, later serving as a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office and Cheongju District Prosecutor's Office, and as a professor at the Ministry of Justice Legal Training Institute (Yongin branch), before taking on roles as Director General at the Suwon District Prosecutor's Office and Director General at the Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office.
A Seoul city official noted, "It is expected that the new legal advisor will significantly contribute to the investigative activities of the city's civil justice police in eradicating everyday crimes that threaten people's livelihoods."
