The Seoul metropolitan government announced that Mayor Oh Se-hoon met with Carlos Fernando Galan, the mayor of Bogotá, Colombia, on the 26th to discuss ways to strengthen inter-city cooperation.
On that day, Mayor Oh met with Mayor Galan at 11 a.m. in his office at Seoul City Hall.
Seoul and Bogotá have maintained exchanges for over 40 years since they established a friendship city partnership in 1982. Previously, in 2011, Seoul transferred its 'transportation card system' to Bogotá. It has also exported transportation policy measures such as integrated fare settlement systems and congestion toll consulting.
After hearing about Bogotá's subway construction plans from Mayor Galan, Mayor Oh said, 'The biggest contribution to the global recognition of the safety and convenience of the Seoul subway has been the screen door.' He added, 'Installing screen doors will drastically enhance citizen safety and convenience.'
He also expressed hope in response to Mayor Galan's suggestion that 'not only in transportation but in various fields we can cooperate in the future,' saying, 'I hope we will continue to discover and share areas where the two cities can collaborate, such as smart cities and the environment.'
