On the 26th, the special prosecutor's office is conducting a search and seizure of the Korea Coast Guard and other related entities regarding the '12·3 martial law involvement allegations.'
The special prosecutor's office noted in a notice sent to the media that it is conducting search and seizure operations at three locations, including the Korea Coast Guard's office, the residence of former Director General for Planning and Coordination Ahn Seong-sik, and his private home, starting at 9 a.m.
Former Director General Ahn is accused of advocating for the review of firearm carrying for the protection of the headquarters, the dispatch of investigative personnel, and the improvement of detention facilities during a nationwide commanders' meeting held under the chairmanship of the Korea Coast Guard chief shortly after the martial law last year.
Former Director General Ahn is an alumnus of Chungam High School, like former President Yoon Suk-yeol. He also was dispatched to the Presidential Transition Committee in 2022.
Earlier, the Coast Guard removed former Director General Ahn from duty on the 14th, stating that it is difficult to perform normal duties.
