A man in his 70s was caught by police after walking around a park in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, brandishing a 1-meter-long sword, causing public anxiety.
The Northern Gyeonggi Police Agency's mobile patrol unit announced on the 25th that they arrested a man surnamed A on suspicion of carrying a deadly weapon in a public place.
Mr. A is accused of walking around the park near the Pungnugcheon River in Paju while carrying a sword on his waist at around 10 p.m. on the 24th.
The sword was found in its scabbard, measuring 1 meter in total length, with a blade length of 70 cm.
The sword, which was sharp and potentially lethal, was found to be unregistered with the police.
Mr. A stated during police questioning that he had previously been confronted by another person, so he carried the sword for personal protection.
