The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 25th that the number of visitors to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), which celebrated its 11th anniversary this year, has exceeded 10 million. Considering the events planned for this fall and winter, the city expects annual DDP visitors to surpass 20 million.
Opened in 2014, the DDP is Seoul's only complex cultural space. Last year, it received approximately 17.29 million visitors, and over the last 10 years, the total number of visitors has been around 100 million. Additionally, last year's facility utilization rate was 79.9%. Excluding preparation periods between events, the DDP operates continuously throughout the year, the city noted.
Various exhibitions and events are also scheduled for the second half of this year at the DDP.
First, events promoting K-beauty and K-fashion, including the Seoul Beauty Week (August 28-30) and the global fashion business platform Seoul Fashion Week (September 1-7), will be held in succession.
A world-renowned exhibition is also planned. From the 29th of this month, a global design and art exhibition will be held, and from September 1, Asia's first "Design Miami" exhibition will also take place at the DDP. Sixteen design galleries based in London, Paris, New York, and Los Angeles will participate in Design Miami.
In October, the design festival "2025 Seoul Design Week" will be held.
In addition, DDP architectural tours will be conducted regularly, and the "DDP Rooftop Tour," which was piloted last year, is set for official operation this November.
Chahang-hee, the CEO of the Seoul Design Foundation, noted that "The DDP will continue to evolve into a world-class design space that balances publicness and artistry."
