A man in his 30s who killed a woman in her 30s at an officetel parking lot in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, has been arrested.
Director General Oh Chang-min of the Suwon District Court held a pre-arrest interrogation for Mr. A, who is charged with violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (including revenge murder), on the 24th and issued an arrest warrant. Oh noted, "There is a risk of flight" as the reason for issuing the warrant.
Mr. A is accused of fatally stabbing Ms. B, a woman in her 30s of Chinese nationality who was an acquaintance, with a prepared weapon multiple times in the underground parking lot of an officetel in Suji District, Yongin, around 2:40 to 2:50 a.m. on the 21st. This incident was revealed when a resident discovered the deceased Ms. B around 5:45 a.m., about three hours after the crime and reported it. Immediately after the crime, Mr. A fled to Hongcheon County, Gangwon Province, using a vehicle (rental car) and abandoned the car in front of a school around 4 a.m. that same day before running into a nearby mountain.
The police discovered Mr. A about 2 kilometers from where the vehicle was found at 8:56 a.m. on the 22nd, approximately 30 hours after the incident, using scent-tracking dogs.
Mr. A was a customer at the store where Ms. B worked, and it is reported that after Ms. B reported him for being a victim of a crime in May, he planned to kill her in retaliation.
As Mr. A was leaving the detention center of the Yongin Eastern Police Station around 1:40 p.m. to attend the interrogation scheduled for 3 p.m., he answered reporters' questions, such as "Do you have anything to say to the victim?" and "Do you acknowledge the charges?" with only "I'm sorry."
The police plan to hold a committee on disclosing Mr. A's personal information while investigating the exact circumstances of the incident and reviewing whether to conduct a psychopath test.
