The Special Counsel for Kim Keon-hee is conducting a search and seizure at the Yangpyeong County Office and other locations on the 22nd in relation to the 'Yangpyeong Expressway allegations.'
The Special Counsel noted in a public notice that "We are conducting a search and seizure at around 10 locations, including the Yangpyeong County Office, related to the allegations regarding changes to the endpoint of the Yangpyeong Expressway that began this morning (22nd)."
The allegations of changing the endpoint of the Yangpyeong Expressway state that during the tenure of former Minister Won Hee-ryong, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport gave preferential treatment by changing the endpoint route of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway project to land owned by Kim Keon-hee's family.
The original endpoint route in Yangseo-myeon passed a preliminary feasibility study in 2021, but suspicions arose in May 2023 when the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport suddenly reviewed the endpoint route in Gangsan-myeon where Kim Keon-hee's family's land is located.
Earlier, on the 14th of last month, the Special Counsel conducted a search and seizure at the office of the Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korea Expressway Corporation's Design Office, and Donghae Comprehensive Technology Corporation, which was entrusted with the project at that time. On the 25th of last month, they sent prosecutors and investigators to the office of People Power Party lawmaker Kim Seon-kyo to secure documents and files on a PC. Kim, who is a former county mayor of Yangpyeong, is known to be the person who requested the change of the highway route to the area where Kim Keon-hee's family land is located.
On the 19th, searches were also conducted again on the office of Donghae Comprehensive Technology Corporation and on two employees over charges of evidence concealment.
