On the 22nd, Min Kyung-min, the head of the private equity firm Oasis Equity Partners, appeared before the special prosecutor regarding the 'Housekeeper Gate' allegations involving Kim Keon-hee.
Min arrived at the KT Kwanghwamun Building West in Jongno District, Seoul, around 9:53 a.m.
Min did not answer reporters' questions, such as, 'Is it still your position that Kim Ye-sung did not influence the investment process?' and 'Did you not foresee that InnoVest Korea would be used as a shell corporation by Kim Ye-sung?'
The Housekeeper Gate allegations focus on the fact that IMS Mobility, which was established by Kim Ye-sung, who is referred to as a close aide and housekeeper of Mrs. Kim, received 18.4 billion won in investments from large corporations, financial institutions, and investors, including Kakao, through Oasis Equity Partners.
Oasis Equity Partners, which raised the investment funds, reportedly used 4.6 billion won to acquire shares of IMS Mobility held by a company named InnoVest Korea. However, InnoVest Korea is a company where Ms. Kim's wife, Jeong Mo, serves as an inside director. The special prosecutor is suspicious that Kim may not be the actual owner of this company.
Also, IMS Mobility, where Kim served as a director, has been in the red since its establishment in 2013. In June 2023, nine companies, including Kakao Mobility, HS HYOSUNG, Shinhan Bank, Kiwoom Securities, and Korea Securities Finance, invested 18.4 billion won in this company through funds.
At the time of the investment, the corporations were under investigation by the prosecution, indicating legal risks. Allegations have been raised that Kim was expected to resolve these risks by using his relationship with Mrs. Kim.
Earlier, Min had been summoned by the special prosecutor on the 2nd.
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor is scheduled to summon and investigate Kim and Jeon Seong-bae at 2 p.m. that day. This is Kim's second summons since being detained on the 18th.
Jeon is accused of having received a diamond necklace and a Chanel bag labeled 'gifts for Kim Keon-hee' from the Unification Church between April and August 2022, and then delivering these to Mrs. Kim after soliciting favors related to church matters.
The day before, Nam Se-jin, the Director General of the Seoul Central District Court, issued a detention warrant for Jeon on charges of bribery under the Serious Crime Punishment Act and violating the Political Funding Act.
