On the 22nd, the family members of three individuals who went missing during a torrential downpour in Gapyeong and were later found dead sent a coffee truck with 200 servings to the county office to express their gratitude.
In front of the coffee truck, a banner and signboard were installed with the phrase, "We will remember this for a long time. Thank you for your hard work."
Earlier, on the 10th, the bereaved family sent a box of cookies to the Administrative Welfare Center in Jojong-myeon and Sangmyeon in Gapyeong.
Written on the outside of the box was, "Thanks to the warm help you provided, we were able to complete the funeral safely. We are deeply grateful."
The three deceased individuals went missing on the 20th of last month while trying to escape a downpour of up to 76 mm per hour at a camping site in Jojong-myeon, Gapyeong, and were found on the day of the accident as well as on the 5th and 12th days after. Thankfully, the eldest son, who was evacuating with them, was rescued by emergency services.
Immediately after the accident, Gapyeong County connected the bereaved families one-on-one with staff members to arrange lodging and meals, providing daily updates on the search situation and offering condolences.
They also provided equipment so that the bereaved family could search the desired areas themselves, and assisted with funeral procedures after the recovery of the bodies.
A staff member who received the coffee that day said, "I appreciate the warm heart of the bereaved family, and I am touched by the thoughtfulness in the coffee and cookies," adding, "I will pray for the deceased and help the bereaved family recover their daily lives as soon as possible."
