The Busan Sasang District Office, the team to which archery national representative Jang Chae-hwan belongs, who has repeatedly posted far-right posts claiming the results of the last presidential election were manipulated on social media, stated that it will determine whether to terminate his contract after reviewing the disciplinary results of the association.
The Busan Sasang District Office said, 'We have not yet considered terminating Jang Chae-hwan's contract, and we plan to discuss it after monitoring the disciplinary action of the Archery Association, keeping a watchful eye on the situation.'
It clarified that reports from some media stating that the district office is reviewing the termination of Jang's contract are incorrect.
Recently, an online petition was posted on the Sasang District electronic civil service portal stating, 'It is problematic for an athlete working for a team funded by taxes to make such statements,' and news reports emerged that the district office is reviewing the contract termination.
Subsequently, nearly 20 postings appeared on the electronic civil service portal stating that 'It is excessive for a team to terminate a contract just for making a political expression.'
Jang follows several far-right social media accounts and recently sparked controversy by writing 'Destroy communism' in the profile introduction section on his Instagram homepage.
In addition, criticisms grew as it was revealed that he had posted multiple far-right claims on social media around the time of the June 2025 21st presidential election, alleging that China manipulated the election results.
The Archery Association is discussing options to hold a Sports Fairness Committee to determine whether and how to discipline Jang Chae-hwan.
