Song Jin-ho, who ran as an independent candidate with number 8 in the last 21st presidential election, has been arrested on charges of fraud.
According to police on the 21st, the Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Song, citing concerns about flight risk and evidence destruction.
Song is accused of defrauding investors of hundreds of millions of won since 2020 by promising to build what he called 'Miracle City' in Cambodia. During the presidential campaign, it also became controversial when it was revealed that he had 17 previous criminal records.
The Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency reportedly captured evidence of fraud, such as misappropriation of investment funds, during the investigation.
