The court extended Kim Keon-hee's detention period until the 31st.
The special prosecutor noted in a media release on the 20th, "The detention period for Kim Keon-hee has been decided to be extended by the court until August 31st as of yesterday (the 19th)."
Earlier, Mrs. Kim was detained on the 12th, and her detention period was set to expire on the 21st. The special prosecutor applied charges of violating the Capital Market Act (allegations linked to stock price manipulation involving Deutsch Motors), violating the Political Fund Act (allegations of intervention in the 2022 and 2024 elections), and charges of receiving bribes under the Special Act on the Punishment of Specific Crimes (allegations of soliciting benefits from the Unification Church through Gunjin Law Firm), leading to the issuance of a detention warrant by the court.
Mrs. Kim was summoned for questioning by the special prosecutor on the 14th and 18th after her detention. The schedule set for the 21st will be her third questioning since being detained. Mrs. Kim's side expressed their willingness to comply with this.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Kim is being held at the Seoul Southern Detention Center. Her inmate number is reported as 4398. Generally, defendants issued detention warrants from the Seoul Central District Court are taken to the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province. However, former President Yoon Suk-yeol is being held at the Seoul Detention Center. Therefore, the special prosecutor requested that "Mrs. Kim be detained at a different detention center," leading the court to order her detention at the southern facility.
