A case of a tent being set up in a pavilion at a beach in Samcheok, Gangwon Province, has become a topic of controversy.
According to the city of Samcheok on the 19th, at the end of June, a camper set up a tent in the middle of the pavilion 'Haemangjeong,' located near Hamengbang Beach in Gundeok-myeon, Samcheok City.
This situation became known recently through an online community. In particular, photos taken up close show that nails were even driven into the pavilion floor to set up the tent.
A netizen who posted the article criticized, saying, 'If any city hall officials see this, I hope they will find and impose legal penalties.'
Other netizens also continued to criticize the camper involved.
According to the amended enforcement ordinance of the Beach Act, which took effect in 2023, the managing authority of the beach area can order the removal of unauthorized facilities and restoration of the original state.
The city has also reportedly received complaints regarding this matter.
As a result, they advised the voluntary removal of the tent before the opening of Hamengbang Beach (July 9), and completed overall repairs of the pavilion.
A city official stated, 'No additional measures were taken as compliance actions were implemented,' adding, 'The pavilion looked generally worn, so repair work was also conducted.'
