A man surnamed Kim, 33, has been sentenced to life in prison for allegedly committing a knife attack in a mart in Mia-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, which resulted in the death of a woman in her 60s.
The 13th Criminal Division of the Seoul Northern District Court (presiding Judge General Director Na Sang-hoon) sentenced Kim to life in prison and ordered him to wear a location tracking electronic device for 30 years.
Kim was brought to trial for allegedly killing a woman in her 60s with a knife displayed in a mart in Mia-dong on April 22nd. It is known that he was not acquainted with the victim. He is also accused of attempting to kill a woman in her 40s, but he stopped the attack when she pleaded for her life, which resulted in an unsuccessful attempt.
The prosecution sought the death penalty during the closing arguments on the 15th of last month, stating, "It is difficult to expect rehabilitation or the restoration of humanity from the defendant."
