The police concluded that there was no evidence regarding the suspicion that Da-hye, the daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, did not donate the money raised from a charity event.
On the 18th, the Seoul Seodaemun Police Station announced that it would not pursue the case filed against Da-hye for fraud and embezzlement.
Da-hye was accused of failing to keep her promise to donate the funds after holding a charity bazaar exhibition at the gallery she operated in December 2022. At that time, it was reported that she promoted the sale of works donated by over 30 artists at auction and stated that she would contribute the revenue to a non-profit foundation.
However, the police received a complaint last October that the funds were not delivered to the foundation. Upon reviewing Da-hye's financial records, the police confirmed that the raised amount had not been withdrawn and remained deposited in the charity exhibition fundraising account. Nevertheless, the police stated that Da-hye did not use the funds for personal purposes, nor did she have any intention to deceive the artists or embezzle money.
It was reported that Da-hye stated during a previous police investigation that "the amount was less than expected, so I did not donate it, and I forgot about it while being overwhelmed with everything."
