Kim Keon-hee Special Investigation Team summoned Yun Jung-ro, vice president of the Segye Ilbo, on the 18th regarding the 'Unification Church bribery suspicion.'
The Special Investigation Team noted that they are investigating Vice President Yun, who was summoned as a witness around 10 a.m. that day. Vice President Yun is known to have introduced Kweon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party, to Yun Young-ho, the former head of the Unification Church.
Former Deputy Minister Yun was arrested last month on charges of violating the Anti-Bribery Act. He is accused of providing over 100 million won in political funds to Representative Kweon on multiple occasions in January 2022. Additionally, he is suspected of having purchased a 'Graph' diamond necklace worth around 60 million won, two Chanel handbags worth around 10 million won each, and Cheonsusam concentrated tea, which he allegedly handed over to geomancer Jeon Seong-bae in order to solicit matters related to the Unification Church for Kim Keon-hee.
The Special Investigation Team is expected to investigate the circumstances under which Vice President Yun introduced key figures of the People Power Party to former Deputy Minister Yun.
Meanwhile, on the 13th, the Special Investigation Team conducted a search and seizure of the People Power Party's central party office as part of its cooperation in submitting computer data related to the bribery suspicion. However, it was halted around 12:43 a.m. on the 14th due to pushback from the People Power Party.
