On the 17th, a bomb threat was reported at a fast-food restaurant in Suwon, prompting the police SWAT team to respond. It was revealed that the incident was a hoax orchestrated by a delivery driver who was scolded by the store.
The Suwon Yongtong Police Station stated on the 18th that they had urgently arrested a person surnamed A in their 20s on charges of obstruction of public duties and interference with business.
Person A is suspected of posting on social media around 1:07 p.m. the previous day about a certain fast-food restaurant in Yongtong District, Suwon, saying, "The delivery is late and the staff are unfriendly. I will plant explosives," and then reporting a terror suspicion to 112 as if he were a witness who had seen a post made by someone else.
The delivery driver, person A, was found to have committed the act out of resentment after a store employee pointed out that the delivery was late while he had been receiving orders from that store recently.
Due to person A's report, the police SWAT team was deployed, and for over an hour and 40 minutes, they conducted detection operations to ascertain whether there were explosives in the fast-food restaurant.
The building is nine stories high above ground and three stories underground, housing a hospital and a private academy. During the police's search, over 400 people, including patients and students, experienced inconvenience as they were evacuated outside the building.
Based on the poster's ID, the police tracked down person A and apprehended him around 4 p.m., just three hours after the incident occurred.
The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for person A as soon as the investigation is completed, and they are also considering applying charges of public intimidation.
