A firefighter who had been suffering from depression following the Itaewon tragedy has reportedly been missing for over a week. Police and fire authorities are said to be searching for the firefighter's whereabouts.
According to the Incheon Fire Headquarters on the 17th, A, a 30-year-old man from a certain fire station, had been unreachable since leaving a note apologizing to his family and friends on the 10th. The search results so far indicate that A was last seen leaving the Nam-Incheon tollgate around 2:30 a.m. on the 10th and stopped his car on the right shoulder before disappearing. The last signal from his mobile phone was detected near an apartment in Seochang-dong, Namdong-gu.
A received a depression diagnosis after responding to the scene of the Itaewon tragedy in 2022. In a media interview at the time, A said, "I couldn't handle placing the deceased in the black zone," and added, "My parents find it hard just knowing I went to the site, so what must the parents of the victims feel? I thought, 'I wish this wasn't real.'"
Police and fire authorities have been searching for A since the missing person's report was filed, but it is reported that they have not made any progress.
A's family is said to be producing flyers to distribute online and offline in an effort to locate A.
