The Ministry of Justice has directly refuted claims by Yoon Suk-yeol's legal team that he is facing a 'risk of blindness,' stating that it is "not factual."
On the 16th, the Ministry of Justice explained through a media notice that "the Seoul Detention Center conducted a health checkup for new arrivals after Yoon Suk-yeol's admission, and it is difficult to consider his health condition as very poor, including any eye diseases, and the claim of a risk of blindness is also not factual," adding, "the detention center provides appropriate medical treatment according to health status."
The Ministry of Justice particularly noted, "In the case of eye diseases, medical measures have been fully provided within the scope allowed for detainees, including allowing external consultations twice at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital," and added, "We plan to actively implement medical treatment according to his health status in the future."
Regarding the fact that Yoon Suk-yeol received eye treatment while wearing handcuffs and an electronic anklet on the 13th and 14th, it was stated that "the measures, including handcuffs for external medical consultations, are standard procedures according to relevant laws and regulations."
In response, Yoon Suk-yeol's side countered, "A diagnosis from Seoul National University Hospital indicating a risk of blindness has already been submitted to both the detention center and the court, and Hallym University Hospital also emphasized the necessity of periodic procedures," asserting that, "the Ministry of Justice's statement of 'no health issues' only reflects the condition at the time of admission, not the current state."
Earlier, Yoon Suk-yeol's team stated, "The risk of blindness is increasing as he has not received any eye treatment for three months," and had submitted relevant medical documents to the detention center and the court.
