Independent lawmaker Lee Chun-seok and his aide, who are suspected of engaging in stock name leasing transactions, acknowledged some of the allegations during police questioning.
According to police on the 15th, Lee appeared at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Financial Crimes Investigation Unit in the status of suspect for over seven hours of questioning the previous afternoon. During the investigation, it was reported that Lee made statements acknowledging the allegations of stock name leasing transactions. Earlier, his aide, a person surnamed Cha, is also said to have made statements to the same effect.
Lee was embroiled in the 'stock name leasing transaction allegations' after being caught trading stocks under Cha's name at the National Assembly plenary session on the 4th. At that time, Lee denied the allegations, saying, "I have never opened a stock account under another person's name for name leasing transactions," which is a reversal of his position.
However, it has been reported that Lee denied the allegations of 'insider trading' using undisclosed information obtained during his activities with the Presidential Committee on Policy Planning.
Police are reportedly focusing on questioning whether Lee has opened securities accounts under Cha's name and engaged in long-term name leasing transactions. In the future, police plan to analyze their stock transaction records and PC data secured through searches to verify the truth of the statements.
Meanwhile, when photos of the name leasing transaction allegations at the plenary session were revealed, Lee voluntarily left the Democratic Party of Korea, and the party leadership immediately took expulsion actions.
